Elevate your Toronto Maple Leafs Memorabilia collection with the Johnny Bower Collectors Card Print!
As a young lad in a family of nine, Johnny Bower started and finished his career as a goaltender. A native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, he began goaltending wearing no pads or skates until he received some as a gift from a friend. After playing minor hockey, he enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940, served four years, and was still young enough to play junior when discharged. He was then drafted in 1945 by Cleveland, but continued to bounce around the American Hockey League where he won the Les Cunningham Trophy as MVP three times and the Harry Holmes Trophy as leading goaltender three times. He finally began his NHL career in 1953 with the N.Y. Rangers. Drafted again in 1958 by the Toronto Maple Leafs, he began his second career of 11 full NHL seasons. Johnny finished his career in Toronto, but not before winning four Stanley Cups. A five time All-Star, he won the Vezina Trophy in 1961 and also shared it with Terry Sawchuk in 1965.
