"Never in history has there been such a dramatic loss by a single sport. There's no way hockey can ever repay it's gratitude...". The words of Clarence Campbell after Gordie Howe retired in 1971. After 26 years in the NHL, Howe left a string of records behind, some of which may never be broken. Standing only six feet tall, Gordie used his size and strength deceptively. His rugged play, effortless skating style and ability to shoot with equal strength from the right and left sides were all trademarks of the famous number 9. Howe began and ended his first NHL career in Detroit, retiring in 1971, but came out of retirement to realize one last dream...to play with sons Mark and Marty as members of the Houston Aeros in 1973. In 1979, Howe returned to the NHL for one more season with the Hartford Whalers. Over his glorious career, Gordie was an All-Star 21 times and a six time recipient of the Hart and Art Ross Trophies. Gordie Howe truly is "Mr. Hockey"
