Lanny McDonald was one of the most colorful and popular players in the NHL throughout the 1970's and 1980's. He had a distinguished career in junior hockey and was the fourth overall pick in the 1973 amateur draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He immediately made the jump to the NHL and played with the Leafs until midway through the 1979-80 season when he was traded to the Colorado Rockies. In the1981-82 season he was traded again, this time to the Calgary Flames. McDonald capped off an outstanding career by leading the Flames to their first ever Stanley Cup Championship in 1989. He appeared in four All-Star games, represented Team NHL in the 1979 Challenge Cup, and won the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1983 and was the NHL Man of the Year in 1989. Lanny was also the first ever recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 1988 for his dedication to hockey.
